You really have to admire the folks at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and the amount of effort it took to bring The Simpsons to New York City. The events that took place in Bryant Park and at The Empire State Building represent the most elaborate attempt I have seen to date for a studio to promote a DVD release....and why not?! The Simpsons have become a world-wide phenomenon since their TV debut on The Tracy Ullman show in 1987. The show has proven to be popular across generations and is shown in dozens of countries all over the world. Over 400 episodes of the show have been produced since 1989.
The Simpsons Movie is one of the top grossing films of all time, generating more than $500 million globally. The film makes its premier on DVD and Blu-ray this very week.
In support of the home video release, America’s favorite family is turning Mid-Town Manhattan yellow. Please join me as I present a glimpse of some of the many events that took place across the city.
The Pond at Bryant Park is Manhattan’s only free admission public ice-skating rink. The 17,000 square foot skating rink is installed each winter season on Bryant Park’s lawn. Overnight, the park was transformed into a “Simpsonized Wonderland” complete with an Ice skating spectacular.

The Simpsons Family put on their own Ice Skating Spectacular complete with a yellow rink, a live choir and a solo between Homer and his very special....uhm....well, you’ll just have to watch the video below.

A 25-foot Homer hand inflatable marks the spot for many of the food giveways including 5,000 cups of Ned Flanders hot chocolate, 5,000 official Simpsons Sprinkalicious donuts and 4,000 samples of Ben & Jerry’s one-day-only ice cream “Duff & D’oh! Nuts”
A 50 foot balsam fir from Quebec is adorned with 30,000 white lights. If you look a little closer you may possibly notice that the tree has come under attack from....SPIDER PIG!
